Be prepared. We have utilized old archive room as our first aid room in Jan 2015 even we operate in capital city Ulaanbaatar of Mongolia where close to Clinics. So why we needed it:
- Our workshops, warehouse, welding area are no good to keep injured personnel. Especially there is open wound and blood is running out, it can be contaminated.
- Till Ambulance comes, injured employee needs temporary private room and clean environment. To keep injured personnel at workplace area is not good for his/her colleagues and it scares everyone.
- Not only for injury, have some employees tested their blood pressure when felt uncomfortable.
- First aiders need more first aid supply if there are multiple injuries.
This room is 24/7 open for employees. At first time, Director was slightly tentative to leave this room open and yes, there are couple of items were missed, but after 3 months later, no one interests in the items.
No medicine is allowed in our first aid room and boxes. Because we don’t know who has what medicine allergy, so don’t want to make a risk. Last Friday, first aid supplier “MONOS” LLC conducted box content training for our 8 first aiders. Each area has 2 first aiders who can replace each other. Every year, they are certified at ISOS Clinic. Monthly salary bonus is given to them, because they received additional duty.
We don’t want to train everyone as first aider (financially it’s difficult and our premise is not big, only 2500m2 area with 160 employees), but do care the quality and competence of first aiders. Each year, first aid duty is passed to next volunteered employees. Do we have many volunteers? Oh, yes because Company gives salary bonus and qualified training by professionals.
PS: When I was shooting this picture this morning, our Equipment Trainer was testing his blood pressure to ensure his health condition. I asked permission and took the picture.
In the end, I hope “this room will not be used further”, but who knows – be prepared.
