Some employees don’t ask and just continue unfamiliar job and end in accident. Why people don’t ask?
- Fear to ask. What will my Supervisor think about me if I ask? It seems actually dummy question about risk…
- Shame to ask. Oh, I worked in this industry for many years, if I ask; my colleagues will laugh at me. Shoot, new equipment had been installed at my workplace, how does it work?
- Proud to ask. I’m his Boss, why should I ask him to click this button switch button?
- When Culture is not set. For instance: Supervisors get angry to answer and lazy on coaching & mentoring.
Actually, who is afraid of asking is ashamed of learning.
In this case, Company needs to break the ice and encourage "Stop & Asking Culture" to prevent losses.
- HSE staffs should train & instruct employees for asking their Supervisor at any unfamiliar circumstances at work. If you don't ask for it, you probably won't get it.
- Supervisors need to support employees to ask and answer properly in friendly coaching manner. If a person doesn’t want to ask in front of everyone, personal meeting can be arranged at everywhere.
- Top management encourages employees if you don’t know or feel incompetence, just ask Supervisor. Asking is learning process and it can save money & time.
No one knows about everything in this world.
